Janis Loughery


Janis Loughery is a Crawford county native and grew up on a farm in Oblong. She has an older sister and brother and graduated from OHS. After graduation, she knew she wanted to be an English teacher and a writer. She earned an Associate in Science degree from Lincoln Trail College and then finished her baccalaureate studies earning a Bachelor of Arts from EIU. After teaching for one year at Mt. Zion High School, Loughery returned to Robinson and worked as a reporter for the Robinson Daily News for five years. She married Robinson resident Jeff Loughery and after a year purchased a semi tractor-trailer with him and drove the United States hauling fresh produce and frozen foods. In 1987 they sold their truck and moved to Phoenix, Arizona, to start a family. Returning in 1994, Loughery worked for the Daily News again before returning to teaching. Janis has one son, Coleman, raised in Crawford County and an alumnus of RHS, LTC and SIU. He is a U.S. Forestry Service Hot Shot Firefighter in Arizona. Janis now works at Robinson High School as Assistant Principal. She is a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Palestine Art Guild, the National Council of Teachers of English, the Illinois Principals Association, the National Association of Secondary School Principals, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
